India vs West Indies first ODI cricket match seems to be going WI way. West Indies scored 214 runs while India was struggling at 73 for the loss of 3 wickets
India vs West Indies first one day international was thought to be going India’s way after the Indian bowlers restricted the hosts to a mere 214 runs. Had it not been for two West Indian players who scored half centuries, they would have been bowled out for less than 150 runs.
Had it not been the timely contribution from Samuel and Sarwan who scored 55 and 56 runs respectively, India would have won the match very easily. But the two batsmen made the match very competitive. Besides the two, the third highest scorer for the host team was DJ Bravo who scored merely 22 runs.
Indian bowlers bowled super spells. Harbhajan was the main tormentor of the hosts. He scalped 3 wickets and gave away just 32 runs in his ten over spells. Praween Kumar, Munaf Patel and stand in captain Suresh Raina scalped two wickets each.
Indian bowlers bowled very good line and length and didn’t allow the hosts to score freely. In his first five overs Praween gave away just 9 runs.
But Indian beginning was not good either. India lost three quick wickets including that of Badrinath, Virat Kohli and Parthiv Patel. Virat was being thought to be the best batting performer for India and his early loss might have destroyed the confidence of the inexperienced Indian batting side.
Patel scored 13 runs while Kohli could manage no more than two runs. Badrinath could manage just 17 runs before being bowled out.
Dhawan seems to have given some credibility to the depleted Indian batting line up. He is playing at 34 runs after facing 52 balls while Rohit Sharma was playing at 8 after facing 14 balls.
After 22.3 overs Indian score was just 77 runs for the loss of three very important wickets.
