The Script

Dublin rock band the Script played some of their biggest hits to an appreciative crowd at Rockefeller Plaza this morning, in the latest edition of the Toyota Concert Series on ‘Today.’
Host Matt Lauer teased Danny O’Donoghue, saying the singer had told Lauer on the group’s last visit to ‘Today’ that they would be taking time off. “When the song does as good as it does around the world, you can’t take a break,” O’Donoghue replied with a smile. “You can’t afford to take time off. So, it was a sneaky little lie. I’m sorry!”
The guys proceeded to play their biggest U.S. hit, ‘Breakeven.’ O’Donoghue was noticeably pitchy — perhaps understandably so, given that most rock artists aren’t used to singing at 7 AM. But the adoring ‘Today’ crowd didn’t seem to mind, as they sang along with every word.
Later came the pleasant mid-tempo rocker ‘For the First Time,’ the band’s most recent charting single in America, and ‘Nothing,’ a more recent single from the sophomore album ‘Science & Faith’ that O’Donoghue said was about the perils of drunk texting.
“It’s not my problem with alcohol, its actually my problem with after the alcohol,” he joked. “Everybody knows this, you jump on Twitter or Facebook, or like I do, I tend to text a lot.”
The straightforward performances of some of their biggest hits could help the Script expand their American fan base, which continues to grow as fans discover their 2008 self-titled debut and ‘Science & Faith,’ which hit stores last year.
The band also admitted to passing time on tour by playing a game called “Inappropriate Frisbee,” which simply means playing Frisbee on elevators, buses, or wherever they happen to be. Sounds like a fun game to us!
