Coachella

Fans will have an early opportunity beginning today to purchase tickets for one of two Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival weekends planned for 2012.
Organizers for the popular music event in Indio announced earlier this week that the festival would add an additional weekend in 2012.

The annual event at the Empire Polo Club will be held April 13-15 and return for the weekend of April 20-22.

The same musical acts will perform at each event, organizers said.

Passes for either weekend go on sale beginning today at 10 a.m. The early opportunity to purchase tickets will last until 10 p.m. next Friday.

Tickets, which cost $269 each, will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. via the festival's website. Early purchasers can enter into a plan in which they pay 10 percent down and eight monthly installments.

The second weekend was added because of what organizers called an "overwhelming response" to this year's festival, in which tickets sold out a week after going on sale.

"In an effort to try and accommodate everyone who wants to experience the festival, Coachella 2012 will be two separate events, held over two consecutive weekends," this week's announcement on the festival's website said. "We will attempt to produce two identical festival weekends. That means same lineup, same art, same place, different people."
