Barneys

If anyone hits a line drive down the produce aisle at Meijer, stand aside. Cubs' second baseman Darwin Barney will handle it.
The up-and-coming Cubbie will visit the supermarket, 9000 W. Golf Road, Niles, and cook a Mexican Rice Bowl dish for fans on Thursday, June 16 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Then he'll sign autographs from 7:30 to 8:30.
He'll be heading to Niles after the Cubs' 1:20 p.m. game against the Brewers.
Starting at 4:30 p.m., the store will hand out wristbands, which assure an autograph, to the first 150 fans in line. No posed photos will be allowed, according to Meijer representatives.
Barney, 25, joined the Cubs--and the major leagues--last August. He's having a strong year so far, both in spring training, where he beat out Jeff Baker and Blake DeWitt for a starting position as second baseman, and in the regular season.
